Too Few Weeks Until Graduation

We’re in the middle of the semester. We’re in the middle of applying for jobs. We’re in the middle of being rejected by every job we apply to and crying ourselves to sleep every night. No? Just me? Cool.

Anyway, it’s a very stressful time in our lives. Between exams, papers, cover letters, and trying to learn proper grammar in News Editing but failing hard, how is one supposed to relax?

American Horror Story: CovenAmerican Horror Story: Coven

Although we know that Angela Bassett and Kathy Bates are coming back, and this is Jessica Lange’s last season, Ryan Murphy has yet to let slip any major details on season four of American Horror Story. The show was a pivotal moment in Lange’s career, as the veteran actress made a return to prominence and earned multiple award nominations. As Lange prepares to bow out from the anthology series, here are eight actresses who should take her place:

1. Shannen Doherty

Charmed: The Complete Second SeasonCharmed: The Complete Second Season

We all know that Shannen Doherty is suffering; have you seen her Education Connection commercial? It’s a little heartbreaking because she once starred in the legendary Heathers, and was a TV staple for a better part of the 80s and 90s. Most notably, she portrayed Brenda Walsh and Prue Halliwell in Beverly Hills 90210 and Charmed respectively. Doherty as…

Finding A Job

If you’ve been reading my blog for the past couple of weeks, you know that I am in the middle of my job search. It’s isn’t easy. I stared my search very narrow (only certain companies, certain positions, certain salaries, etc.) You can’t do that when you’re not even out of college yet… I didn’t find much at all, so I started experimenting.

What’s That Shiny Ball of Light in the Sky?

My seasonal depression got really bad yesterday when we had a surprise 4 inches of snow when it was supposed to rain. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE the snow. However, when you can’t remember the last time you had a day when it didn’t snow, you kind of just want to take a nap until the sun comes out again. Every time I looked out the window it was snowing harder. I just wanted to cry. It finally let up after a little while then the freezing rain came. Not quite as bad, but still. It’s winter weather.

Bode Miller = President Obama?

I posted this on my Tumblr last night, but I feel like I didn’t discuss it enough.

Maybe you’ve heard that Bode Miller won bronze in his event on Sunday. That’s awesome! Go Team USA! However, he did get very emotional in his post race interview with NBC reporter Christin Cooper. Miller’s brother passed away about a year ago, so obviously he was thinking of him after his performance. Cooper saw this emotion and used it to get some prime-time tears.

Accidental Blogging Break

Hey everyone! Sorry about not posting for nearly a week. I’ve been really lazy, with all these snow days and the long weekend. I had a 4-and-a-half-day weekend thanks to all the snow! (The half day came from a delay on Friday morning, so I only had to go to one 45 minute class.)

I took part in your typical snow day activities such as snowball fights, drinking hot chocolate, and ignoring the pile of homework I need to get done.  So tomorrow we have classes (maybe, there’s another 3-5 inches of snow coming) and I have two quizzes and a paper due. I will be blogging again very soon, but I just wanted to pop in and update everyone on what’s happening 🙂

How Do References Work?

FINALLY! I have Zemanta back!

Yesterday I met with one of my favorite professors and talked about a variety of topics. One of them was asking for a reference.

As you may know, I have begun my job search. I’m not sure if it’s more exciting or overwhelming. In all of my cover letters, I have ended with “References can be supplied upon request”. I just never knew the appropriate time to ask for a reference.

Luckily we had the reference conversation, because I learned I should have asked a long time ago.

I’ll share my lesson with you:

You should contact the people who hope to have reference you as soon as you can to give them plenty of notice. Let them know you’re in the application process, and you may need a reference with short notice.

If you’re emailing them, send them a quick note. Tell them which region you’re applying for jobs in, ask them if they’d be willing to give you a good reference. Attach your resume and inform them that you can supply any job descriptions they may need.

Then wait for them to respond. That’s what I’m most scared of.

Thoughts on the Sochi Olympics Opening Ceremony

If you follow me on Twitter, you probably saw my live tweeting of the opening ceremony. I’ll admit, I went overboard, but I got a bunch of compliments so I’m not sorry.

For those of you who don’t follow me, I’ll fill you in on my thoughts:

16 Things We Forget To Thank Our Moms For

Thought Catalog

1. All the times she had to double as best friend/counselor/therapist/costume designer/hair stylist/coach/all-around-solver-of-every-problem-ever. I remain unconvinced that moms aren’t actually superheroes in disguise.

2. Forgiving us when we forget to call.

3. Listening to all our pointless dramas when we do remember.

4. Being the kind of person that we actually do want to become — because as we all know, it’s inevitable.

5. Having the incredible prowess only a mother whose babes have been scorned could — mama bear protects her cubs, sometimes excessively, but we love it, let’s be honest.

6. All those times we yelled “MOOOOMMM!!” through the house to find out where our white shirt was or what time so-and-so was getting home and all the other questions we just couldn’t go to Dad for.

7. All the things she reluctantly bought us at the cash register of any given store, all the clothes and things…
